Family
Health Centers is located in
North Central Washington’s Okanogan
County. Located halfway between the metropolitan areas of
Seattle and Spokane, Okanogan County encompasses more than
14,000 square miles of pristine, natural beauty. Larger than
several states, Okanogan County is bordered on the north by
Canada, on the south and east by the Columbia River Basin and
the west by the North Cascade Mountains.
Family Health Centers was incorporated in 1985
and has been an important part of the Okanogan community for
over 25 years. The clinic grew from its humble beginnings
treating farm workers in the orchards with one doctor and
support staff in Okanogan, to three medical sites in Okanogan,
Brewster and Tonasket and three dental sites in Okanogan, Brewster
& Oroville that
together serve the entire county. Today, FHC is a comprehensive
health care system offering primary medical and dental care,
pharmacy, WIC and more to over 25% of the county’s
population. In addition, FHC provides these services in
culturally competent and linguistically appropriate ways.
Family Health Centers is governed by a board of
directors, 51% of whom are patients of the health centers. The
Board represents our patient population in terms of age, sex,
race/ethnicity and geographic location which offers a
perspective on health care delivery unique to community and
migrant health centers. The Board accepts overall
responsibility for the corporation, oversees the quality of care
and rights of the patients and maintains the financial integrity
of the organization. FHC board members are continually involved
in addressing vital policy questions regarding how we can best
serve low-income people in Okanogan County and as such, has
approved the following five focus areas: Customer—FHC will be a
household name and the health care provider of choice by
delivering high levels of customer service; Quality—FHC will
provide high quality healthcare, reduce health care disparities
and continue to maintain our
Joint Commission
accreditation; Human Resources—FHC will be the
employer of choice in our region and a national role model for
community health centers; Operations—FHC will deliver the right
service at the right time; Finance—FHC will be self sustaining
even during times of economic uncertainty.
I invite you to come as a patient, as an
